Island Tours - Slow-Down
Program Slow-down

Structuring for a slow-down island experience is paradoxical because the slow-down process cannot be accomplished through activity. Rather, it needs to be allowed to happen. We do not function like automobiles which come equipped with brakes we can engage in order to come to a halt. Instead, we are more like sailboats: Whenever we want to come to a halt, we lower the sails and drift until we reach the perfect spot to drop our anchor and stay for a while.
On the other hand, most of us plan to eventually return to the mainland where we are subject to a tight corset of appointments and expectations. If we are to succeed at bringing back some island-time to the mainland with us, our island experience has to have some structure, then.

So, here is our island framework:

Initially, we will have a “getting to know each other meeting and an orientation to some of our favorite slow-down opportunities offered by your island. In most island-time tours, excursions and actual programming will be on your own or in spontaneous groups; of course, participation is always optional . Every morning though, there will be a get-together with a mini-lecture about a crucial aspect of slowing-down to reflect on, and time to process the adventures of the previous day with your fellow travelers and your slow-down coach, as well as to address any other issues which may surface. Your coach will be available to you at other times throughout the day on a ‘first come, first served’ basis. On the last day of our island-week, we will meet longer and try to ‘put it all together’ and have plenty of time for saying good-bye.

While we ask for everyone to participate in the crucial get-togethers on the first and last days, we strongly encourage you to take advantage of the opportunity to exchange experiences with some of the other participants on the remaining days, while understanding that there may be times when you are just too ‘busy’ doing something (or nothing) else which is too enjoyable to interrupt right then.
